| What is a Unimog anyway?
|
|
This page is an introduction to what Unimogs are and some of the unique features shared by most models. For a more detailed history or more specifics about any particular model or feature surf the web from my links page or any one of the dozens of good Unimog pages out on the web.
Some people will never understand what I see in my Mog to those people I like to just say that it's my Mercedes SUV.

There are many models of Unimogs with many features and abilities since their production has spanned 5 decades, but there are some common attributes that all Unimogs share giving them their unmatched mobility and reliability. Many models share the approach and departure angles that exceed most 4wd vehicles sold today (above left).
Their signature portal axles (above center and right) give them both amazing ground clearance and a gear reduction that protects them from the drive-train failures that plague many other off-road vehicles

Most models of Unimogs also share a flexible ladder type frame (above left) and coil spring suspension (above right) along with a pivoting 3-point mounting system for most components (right) and a flexible ball and socket mounting system for the beds and boxes that give them their amazing body and axle articulation.
